Root Canal Treatment
San Diego

During a root canal procedure the inflamed or infected pulp (see illustration) is removed, the canal is carefully cleaned and shaped to fill and seal the space. Dr. Racic will skillfully craft a crown to cover, protect and restore the tooth to be healthy and strong for many years to come.

Root canal procedure is preferred over-extraction because it is always better to maintain a healthy, natural smile whenever possible. Root canals allow for just that. Extracting and replacing a tooth involves more time, expense and risks impacting neighboring teeth and supporting gums.

Root Canal is an Endodontic treatment, Greek for “ inside tooth.”

The tooth illustration shows you inside the tooth, under two hard layers (enamel and dentin) is a soft tissue called the pulp.

During Growth and development of the tooth, pulp is important but once mature, the tooth can survive without the pulp.

When damage or decay goes deep and reaches the pulp, the best practice is a root canal.

Dental technology is constantly improving, allowing new and faster treatment options. CEREC technology now allows your dentist to create dental restorations, including dental crowns, and complete them in a single visit. Before CEREC Same-Day Crowns, you would have to visit the office multiple times for treatments and impressions, and typically involved a temporary crown that could break or cause problems.

How long does a dental crown last?

As long as they are properly cared for, our crowns are designed to last for 15-plus years.

What to do if you break or damage a crown?

Contact us if you have an old crown that is cracked, feels too loose or fell out. We may be able to bond it back in place or replace it entirely.
